Cornerstone Insurance, Inc. · Florida insurance agency license L061107

Two riders on the same model rarely need the same policy — the miles, the passengers, the added chrome, and the medical side all pull the coverage in different directions. We start with you and the bike: how you ride, what you’ve added, who shares the seat. Then the policy is shaped to fit.

Cornerstone is a family-owned and operated Trusted Choice® independent personal lines agency writing in every county in Florida — so your quote isn’t one company’s rate sheet, it’s the motorcycle carriers we work with competing for the same bike.

The Florida Rules Every Rider Should Know

Motorcycle rider on a Florida road

Florida’s no-fault law stops at four wheels. The statute behind PIP defines a motor vehicle as having four or more wheels (s.627.732), so motorcycles sit outside the system entirely — and a rider hurt on the bike generally can’t draw on the PIP from their own car policy either. Whatever injury protection a rider has gets built into the motorcycle policy on purpose.

The helmet law is partly an insurance law. Under s.316.211(3)(b), a rider over 21 may ride without a helmet only if covered by at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries from a motorcycle crash — a statutory threshold, not riding advice, and a reason the medical side of the policy is worth settling first with your agent.

Registration doesn’t ask for liability coverage — the road does. Florida will register a motorcycle without liability insurance, but under the financial responsibility law (chapter 324) an at-fault crash without it can mean suspension of your license, tag, and registration, with the damages still yours to pay. That bill arrives after the crash — which is why riders carry real liability limits before it.

Uninsured motorist coverage earns its keep here. Florida doesn’t require most drivers to carry bodily injury liability coverage, so the driver who turns across your lane may have nothing that pays for your injuries. UM is designed to step in for you there, subject to its limits and terms. Price it on the bike itself, because coverage from other policies doesn’t always follow you onto two wheels.

And there’s no off-season. Florida bikes carry riding and parked exposure all twelve months, so theft, storm, and injury protection deserve year-round attention.

What Goes Into a Florida Motorcycle Policy

Working with your agent, the policy comes together from a handful of building blocks — each sized to your bike and riding, each subject to the specific policy’s terms.

Liability

Designed to help pay for injuries or damage you cause others, up to your limits — worth carrying at the highest limits you qualify for and can comfortably afford. An umbrella policy can sit above it, protecting what you earn now and later.

Comprehensive

Designed to help with what happens outside a crash — theft, fire, vandalism, storm damage — which matters even while the bike sits out a stormy Florida summer.

Collision

Designed to help repair or replace the bike after a crash with a vehicle or object, regardless of fault, subject to your deductible. Lenders typically require both this and comprehensive on financed bikes.

Medical payments

Designed to help with medical bills for you and a passenger, no matter who caused the crash — the natural place to start when weighing s.316.211’s $10,000 threshold.

Uninsured motorist

Designed to step in for your injuries when an at-fault driver carries little or no bodily injury coverage. With no PIP behind a motorcycle, many riders treat UM as the most consequential line on the policy.

Custom parts & accessories

Saddlebags, exhaust, chrome, custom paint — gear added after the factory is typically covered only up to a modest built-in limit. Higher limits are available by endorsement; receipts and photos make sizing easy.

Roadside & trailer options

Many carriers we quote offer roadside assistance and towing, trip-interruption help on longer rides, and options for the trailer that hauls the bike.

Frequently Asked Questions About Motorcycle Insurance

Do I really need motorcycle insurance in Florida?

Florida doesn’t require liability coverage just to register a motorcycle — but that’s a registration rule, not the whole story. Under the financial responsibility law (chapter 324), an at-fault crash without liability coverage can mean suspension of your license, tag, and registration, with the damages still yours to pay. That’s why riders carry liability, medical, and uninsured motorist protection before a crash, when it can still help.

Does Florida’s no-fault (PIP) law apply to motorcycles?

No. Florida’s no-fault law defines a motor vehicle as having four or more wheels (s.627.732), so motorcycles sit entirely outside the PIP system — and injuries on a bike generally can’t be claimed against the PIP on your own car policy either. A rider’s medical protection exists only where the motorcycle policy builds it, which is why medical payments and uninsured motorist coverage carry so much weight for riders.

Are custom parts and accessories covered?

Gear added after the factory — saddlebags, custom paint, chrome, performance exhaust — is typically covered only up to a modest built-in limit, usually alongside comprehensive and collision. Higher custom parts and equipment limits are available by endorsement with many carriers, and receipts and photos of the build make the limit easy to size.

What discounts may Florida riders qualify for?

It varies by carrier, which is exactly why comparing helps. An approved motorcycle safety course may earn a discount with many of the carriers we quote, and placing your auto or home insurance alongside the bike may qualify you for multi-policy savings. None of these are promises — they’re questions we ask on your behalf.

Which motorcycle insurance carriers do you work with?

We’re independent, so your bike isn’t priced off one company’s rate sheet — we quote it across multiple Florida motorcycle markets and show you the results side by side. Lineups shift as markets enter and leave the state, so rather than keep a list on a page, we’d rather show you live numbers for your bike.

What other types of insurance do you offer?

Motorcycle coverage is one piece of the picture. We also quote homeowners, auto, flood, condo, renters, and umbrella insurance statewide, along with boat and watercraft, RV, and ATV coverage — one agency, one number to call, and bundling may qualify you for multi-policy savings.
