We understand that receiving an $8,500 homeowners renewal, especially after years without a claim is frustrating and understandably alarming. We also appreciate you sharing your experience because it gives us an opportunity to explain what was happening behind the scenes. You have been insured with us since 2018, and throughout that time our goal has been to place you with a financially strong carrier and provide coverage we believe is in your best interest—not simply chase the lowest price at every renewal. Tower Hill has been serving Florida homeowners for more than 50 years and has long been regarded as one of the stronger and more established carriers in our state. The timing of your increases is also important. Beginning shortly after you originally purchased your policy, Florida's homeowners insurance market went through an unprecedented crisis, with multiple carriers becoming insolvent or leaving the market. During that period, moving a client simply because another option appeared less expensive was not always a prudent decision, particularly when that alternative involved a newer or less-established carrier with a very different financial position. In reviewing your policy history, your premiums did not increase substantially until 2023 and 2024, which was right in the middle of that market turmoil. While we absolutely understand why you would have wanted us to find a lower premium, there were very limited options during those years that we felt offered a meaningfully better combination of financial strength, coverage and stability. We also want to clarify the timing of our review. Your policy renews on September 28, and our team had already scheduled your account for review this week. We routinely work accounts approaching renewal and compare them across the 20+ carriers we represent. Had we completed that review, our intention was to determine whether there was now a better option for you given the changes taking place in the Florida market. We are disappointed that we did not have the opportunity to complete that review before you obtained another policy, particularly because the market has finally reached a point where we believe moving carriers may be a prudent option for you. That said, we respect your decision and are genuinely glad you found coverage that provides the protection you want at a significantly lower premium. We never want a client to feel that they have to struggle alone with an insurance increase, and we appreciate your business over the past eight years. One point we do want to respectfully clarify: our compensation does not increase simply because your premium increases in the way suggested in your review. Our responsibility is to advocate for our clients and help them navigate a very difficult Florida insurance market, while balancing price with coverage, carrier stability and financial strength. We sincerely wish you the best with your new policy, and we appreciate the opportunity to have served you.
